What does sustainability mean to you?
Sustainability means that everyone has healthy, clean, affordable ways to heat, power and use water in their homes and communities. We need to make the right choices about how we live today while being mindful of what those choices mean for the future. A project, initiative, or program is truly successful when we keep intended and unintended consequences, replicability, and long-term equitable impact in focus.
What has been your greatest experience working towards a more sustainable Chicago?
Linking the affordable multifamily housing sector with energy efficiency has been my greatest experience in working towards a more sustainable city. Also using my experience with public health to research and to provide public education about the interconnections between health, housing, and energy efficiency has been immensely gratifying.
Working with others to pass the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA) was a great experience as well because it means bringing equity and access to new jobs and technology to communities in Chicago that may have otherwise be left behind in the clean energy economy.
